How to Set Up IPTV on a Windows PC
There are two reliable options on Windows. VLC is the simplest, and IPTV Smarters Pro is built for IPTV, with a full channel guide and catch-up support. Pick VLC for a quick start or Smarters Pro for a TV-like experience.
Choosing between VLC and Smarters Pro
VLC is free, tiny, and works instantly with a playlist link — but it is a general media player, so you get a bare channel list with no guide, favorites, or on-demand library. IPTV Smarters Pro from the Microsoft Store is built for IPTV: a channel guide, live and on-demand sections, and catch-up support where the stream provides it. Many people install both, using VLC as a quick fallback.
Which login goes with which app
VLC takes your M3U playlist link. Smarters Pro takes your Xtream Codes username, password, and server URL. Both are on your My Account page. If you are not sure which to copy, use the M3U link for VLC and the three Xtream fields for Smarters Pro.
Sending it to a TV
A PC can put its picture on a TV two ways. The reliable way is an HDMI cable from the PC to the TV, which needs no network and adds no delay. The wireless way is Windows’ built-in casting: press Windows key + K, choose your TV or a Miracast receiver, then play in VLC or Smarters Pro. Wireless is convenient, but it depends on your Wi-Fi and is more likely to stutter during live sports.
In VLC, the playlist panel has a search box for jumping to a channel by name. VLC does not show a TV guide, so if you want one, use IPTV Smarters Pro.
Laptops: power settings matter
On a laptop, battery-saving modes can throttle the processor and the Wi-Fi adapter, which shows up as stutter in live video. Plug the laptop in and pick a balanced or high-performance power mode for long sessions. On desktops with Wi-Fi, a wired connection removes the most common cause of buffering.
Setup, step by step

- Choose your player. For a quick setup, download VLC media player from videolan.org. For a full IPTV experience with a channel guide, download IPTV Smarters Pro from the Microsoft Store. - Get your login details. Log in to your My Account page and copy your M3U link (for VLC) or your Xtream Codes username, password, and server URL (for IPTV Smarters Pro).
- VLC setup. Open VLC, choose Media → Open Network Stream, paste your M3U link, and select Play.
- IPTV Smarters Pro setup. Open IPTV Smarters Pro, choose Login with Xtream Codes API, enter your username, password, and server URL, then select Add User.
- Start watching. Either way, you are ready to stream. VLC shows channels in its playlist panel; Smarters Pro shows a channel guide.
Windows tips
The settings that fix most stutter and playback problems.
- Network caching
- In VLC choose Tools → Preferences, switch to Show All, and find Network caching under Input / Codecs. Raising it from the default of about one second to a few thousand milliseconds reduces stalls.
- Hardware decoding
- Under Input / Codecs, set hardware-accelerated decoding to Automatic for smooth playback. If you see glitches, try Disable.
- Plug in laptops
